Requests for Leave of Absence during Term Time

In the interest of pupil progress it is important children attend school as much as possible.

The Government has made amendments to the Education (Student Registration) (England) Regulations 2006 which came into force on 1st September 2013.  These state that Headteachers may not grant any leave of absence for holidays during term time unless there are exceptional circumstances (see  Attendance Policy).

As a consequence of these changes we are no longer able to approve requests for leave of absence for holidays during term time.  Parents wishing to apply for leave of absence for their child/children in an exceptional circumstance should complete the  Absence Request Form. The intended dates and reason for the request, highlighting the exceptional circumstances should be given in detail. The application should be made at least two weeks in advance of the requested date and before the leave is arranged as absences will not be granted retrospectively.

It is important that parents/guardians understand that this is Government Policy and parents who take their children on holiday during term time without permission from the School will incur unauthorised absences being recorded for their child/children.

As always, we continue to work with our parents in the best interests of our pupils and their achievement.  Thank you for your continued support and understanding.

School Visits

The school will email parent information about each trip or activity before it takes place including how your child will be travelling.  Written parental consent is not required from parents for the majority of off-site activities offered by the school – for example, year-group visits to local amenities – as such activities are part of the school’s curriculum and usually take place during the normal school day.  The blanket consent below will cover the period that your child attends Harrowbarrow School.

Transport

We are fortunate to own 2 minibuses which we use for most trips and activities.

However, on some occasions we may also need the support of parents to transport children to and from  educational events and activities. If you volunteer your services for this, then please complete one of our forms and hand it into the school office.

Consent for School to Administer Medicine

Sometimes children are well enough to attend school after a period of illness, but may still need to complete a course of medication. Parents can authorise the school to administer this medicine as long as consent has been given using the form below. Medication must be handed in to the school office in the original container as dispensed by the pharmacy.
